Three of my absolute favorite bands are likely to release new material in 2012. Add to that a second LP by one of 2010’s most promising debuts and rumors of something new from an all-time great, and 2012 is shaping up to be another excellent year in music. Here are my top5 most eagerly anticipated releases for 2012:
5. Radiohead
There’s talk of them being in the studio for December and January, with maybe an EP to come as a result. Only #5 on my list because so far there’s nothing but rumors.
4. Sleigh Bells
Their second LP, Reign Of Terror, is due out Valentine’s Day (<3) on Mom+Pop. So far they’ve put out an epic trailer and an awesome new song, “Born To Lose.”
3. Baroness
According to Relapse Records’s official Tumblr, Baroness is among the many artists on their label to have new material coming in 2012. Baroness is easily one of the best young(ish) metal bands out there, and who knows what color their next release will be? My money’s on yellow.
2. Fang Island
After putting out my favorite album of 2010, everybody will soon be high-fiving everybody again, as Fang Island are currently in the studio, with their next LP due out in January. That’s like now! If you remain unswayed, perhaps their desire to use gifs as album covers might persuade you.
1. Coheed And Cambria
Coheed are my all-time favorite band. I know this is an opinion that most of you do not share. But every time they are set to put out an album it is automatically my #1 most anticipated of the year, even after their most recent, 2010’s Year Of The Black Rainbow, was by far their worst. With the return of original drummer Josh Eppard and the completion of their 5-album epic quadrilogy (part IV was split into 2 albums, of course) The Amory Wars, the time seems ripe for a return to quality. They’re currently in the studio and 3 songs in.
