Today’s Metal Recommendation:
Today, I offer Bonded By Blood, an American thrash metal band named after Exodus’s 1985 debut album. Bonded By Blood recorded their demo after winning first prize ($3000 and two days in a studio) in a battle of the bands contest in California. Eventually, they self-released an EP called Extinguish The Weak in 2007 and then signed with Earache Records. Their debut LP, Feed The Beast, came out in 2008, and their most recent release, Exiled To Earth just came out a few weeks ago.
Like any good thrash band worth its salt, their music is marked by pounding blastbeats, high-octane shredding, and aggressive vocals. In addition to paying homage to classic 80s thrash metal with their music, Bonded By Blood also serves as an aesthetic throwback, donning fashion not seen since The Big Four (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer) were actually Big.
So, why am I choosing to recommend Bonded By Blood today? Sure, I love thrash metal as much as the next fan, but what really makes this band SD//DS worthy is their propensity for GHOSTIN’ IT. The following is a quote from the band’s Wikipedia page:
"Aside from being aficionados of 1980s thrash metal, the band has expressed their love of skateboarding, comic books, and cartoons, most notably the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
They’re such big fans of pizza and turtle power, in fact, that they recorded a cover of the theme song. Cowabunga, dude.
